Cafe Brio Buffet: Prawns & Oysters

There is a one-for-one promo this month (Oct 2008) for Standard Chartered Bank credit card members and so I thought I will try out the buffet there. During the promo, you pay S$44 (b4 tax n stuff) for two if you do their buffet lunch from Mon-Thu … good deal… hehe

When I went, they were having the annual Oktoberfest thingy so there were quite a bit of western (German?) food, which was great! Buffets being so bad for the waistline, one needs to learn to be more discerning … so I skipped most of the local food which I didn’t think I will miss anyway. Lookie at what we ate!

Cafe Brio Buffet: Sushi

This is the first plate of food I had. Can you tell I love Japanese food?

And you can always tell from photos the first plate of buffet food – it’s usually not the best photo & the food is haphazardly arranged. Chop chop take photo and eat! And I kindly sneak in a slice of salmon for B even though I don’t eat raw salmon, thereby permanently scarring my photo above, only to find out that…

Cafe Brio Buffet: Fresh Salmon

B took a mountain of salmon sashimi! He must be less hungry (i.e. greedy) than me because the arrangement looks better than mine.

Cafe Brio Buffet: Prawns & Oysters

Seafood galore – My allowable daily limit of 3 prawns (allergy) and oysters – very fresh! Yummy! :XO:

Cafe Brio Buffet: Oysters

Our second helping of fresh oysters. Taking the oysters is really challenging … because they run out soon after being topped up. I’ve seen hungry ghosts hanging at the oysters stand waiting for it to be topped up =( We sat outside and because it was a distance to the buffet stand, the oysters tray was always empty when we visit. But no regrets about sitting outside because there is natural lighting for photography, lots of fresh air & it’s also more romantic and quiet; it’s a total battlezone inside there. So if you go there, remember to take the oysters first if you see them – they run out so quickly – but be considerate and leave some for the other diners ok? =P

Did you see the little prawn at the back? I snuck in one more prawn to push my daily limit hehe

Cafe Brio Buffet

L- background, 4 types of German sausages (including beer favor!) and front, codfish with mushroom sauce. There are times when I don’t like codfish if it’s not done well, but I like this one!
R, top – some (oxtail?) soup which B said is nice. There are actually two types of soup that day but I forgot to take!; R, bottom – assorted food

Cafe Brio Buffet: Roast Beef, Sauteed Vegetables, roasted potatoes

Roasted beef with sauteed vegetables and roasted potatoes. They have a roasted beef section where they slice a rack of beef on the spot. Everything on this plate is delicious, I like it!

Cafe Brio Buffet: German Fare

Some German/western fare. In the background of the plate there is some pesto and stuff.

Cafe Brio Buffet: Desserts

Dessert Time – B took so much desserts! Frankly I dunno what most of them are but they tasted nice. Does B know a bit about food styling? This ‘mess’ he arranged on the plate looks quite stylish to me.

Cafe Brio Buffet: Desserts

More desserts – (L) served in little glasses, R(top) – decadent cheesecake, R(bottom) – Jelly with raspberry

Cafe Brio Buffet: Ice Cream

So proud of this ice cream … because I decorated it :P Isn’t it pretty? :P :|

Cafe Brio Buffet: Macaron

Corny Convo during mealtime

Me: Why are there macarons? I don’t see any at the buffet table …
B: Have … It’s on top of the tiramisu…
Me: What, you took that! Isn’t it for decoration! *Staring at evidence of brown pastry specks on the macaron*
B: It’s for eating anyway … don’t worry ^_^

And hence this macaron will forever be known as “the one with a dubious origin” =x

But at least we had a ‘rare item’ that day =p

So anyway, this macaron is so tall and fat, it was worth risking our lives for =D

doggy swimming

The most exciting part of the lunch was not the food though. A doggy fell into the canal and its worried owner have to guide it back to shore. It was a loooong swim, almost 10 minutes, and everyone of us who was seated outside was more interested in watching the dog swim back than eating. The doggy looks entirely happy doing dog paddle in its huge private swimming pool, while the owner really looked like he was worried sick … hehehe … yep the doggy finally made it back to safety – a wonderful conclusion to a nice alfresco lunch!

Ooo.. fresh oysters! I want! :D

lol about the conversation on the macaron.

Yeah, clever. I skip local food too when I go for buffets, sometimes even to the extent of skipping the carbs. :P

Now…. When you say the word sashimi, you aroused my attention instead of the word ‘buffet’. The food looks fresh and the deserts look delicious. :XO:

It is indeed a good deal for those who loves buffet. But I am not a fan as I had experienced throwing out after stuffing so many things at 1 time. :(

tigerfish, keke … sounds like we both like to take a bit of everything =)

LCOM, thanks! =)

didally, smart of you to skip the carbs. Me … first plate is sushi rice, can’t resist *shakes head* Yes the oysters are the highlights ^^

Hi kisetsu, looks like both of us are Japanese food lovers :XO:

lk, hehe … yeah, I have to keep reminding myself not to be too greedy when I’m at a buffet =x

If you have time, try KuShinBo at Suntec City (near Cinema there). They serve pretty good Japanese Buffet, too. Fresh sashimi and great sushi with many other food…

Think it is about $35 per pax?? :?:

Eerrghhhh I hate reading your blog.
Not that your blog is bad, but reading your blog makes me miss Singapore.
Even if other cities in the world can offer as much variety of food as Singapore, I don’t think you can spend S$5 anywhere in the world & get a decent meal.
You can tell I miss cheap hawker stall foods haha!

What a coincidence, we just posted about fresh oysters.

http://chezannies.blogspot.com/2008/10/hog-island-oysters-san-francisco.html

We tend to stay away from buffets because it’s bad for the waistline – hard to be judicious about food when there’s so much of it to go around AND you can take as many plates as you want.

LOL I love that you guys stole a macaron off the top of the dessert. Hehehe! And aww, poor dog owner… my pup absolutely hates water, so if he were to fall in, I’d probably have to jump in there to save him. Eeps!

NC, everything looks too good to eat (okay, I draw the line at oysters); the presentation and photography is truly a foodie’s fantasy. Lucky.

Not only does the quality of food look impressive, but your photography is fabulous! How do you take such wonderful pictures on site?
I’ve tried but get so scared that the Manager is going to kick me out. I had that threatened to me one time long ago and now I don’t ever take pictures in restaurants anymore!

Oysters are the most uniquely beautiful creatures. To have them in a buffet would be unheard of here; they are so expensive.

Another great round of pristine photos, Wiffy.

Hi! I live in Finland now, and your articles always make me drool! And your recipes make me wish i have the ingredients to make them. (but i dont usually :( ).
Btw, I saw that you mentioned here in desert : “Jelly with raspberry”; that is not a a raspberry. That’s a black berry. :)
