[Taipei] Formosa Chang | Hu Xu Zhang Lu Rou Fan 鬍鬚張魯肉飯
Formosa Chang is a fast food-like chain famous for their braised meat rice. To commemorate their 51st (!) anniversary, they have an amazing promo price in September of just NT$10 (SGD$0.43) for a small bowl of signature braised meat rice. It’s a pretty small bowl, so we ordered a few more tasty dishes to go with it. We visited the outlet just opposite the Wufenpu commercial district which is a paradise for trendy streetwear. Service at this outlet was excellent and even though the staff were extremely busy, they explained happily what promos they had and let you take your time to place your order. You get to order at your tables and orders are served very quickly. Luckily we filled our stomachs at this stop, for we couldn’t finish patronizing all the clothing shops at Wufenpu even after an exhausting 3.5 hours!
The braised meat was tasty and soaked in aromatic soy sauce.
Somehow, their breed of kangkung seemed to taste better than our local ones. The stems were also more tender.
For those who enjoy “rich” food, the melty fatty meat is actually quite a treat.
A nourishing soup, with lots of ingredients in it. The flavour was mild and light.
This was the sign describing the promotion price of the NT$10 braised meat rice (small bowl), ending on 30 Sept 2011, usual price NT$30.

wiffy: I totally enjoy the food here, almost forgetting that it is actually a fast food chain going by their nice service and food quality. Our total bill for two persons was only NT$170 (US$6/S$7) for everything featured here – 2 lu ruo fan, 1 soup, 1 meat and 1 veg dish! Thanks to Noob Cook Facebook reader Wendy for the great recommendation :)
